Food Reviewed: Thai Spring Rolls, Lamb Balti – make your own!

Well, where do I start. Speaking to a couple of the ladies at work last week, they suggested we went to the NEW Spice Fusion Restaurant near Ombersley for this week’s ‘Date Night’. (Even long-term couples should date (each other) take note!) They had been there last weekend and said the food was amazing – they weren’t wrong!

I’d booked the table on Friday as I heard it would be busy and we arrived about 8:30 after the cinema (watched Ocean’s 13….nothing to write home about i can tell you, anyway…). We were booked in at 9, but were sat down at our cosy table by about 8:40, not bad! The restaurant was full and there were lots of people rushing around serving drinks and bringing out food, but it all made for a really nice atmosphere. It’s quite trendy inside but not pompous, it was just nice.

Have a look at the food and then i’ll talk you through it:

Poppadoms and dips Thai Spring Rolls

Here we have on the left, warm poppadoms (mmmm, the best kind) and a trendy tray of dips and cucumber/onion salad. This was a really delicious appetiser. Then I chose a Thai starter (they serve Thai and Indian food fyi) of something like Toi Pan Juo (not even close but that type of name) which turned out to be a vegetarian spring rolls, 5 of them, which came with a dip, and was really really good! I had to donate one to my date though as i feared I would not be able to eat my main course, shocking i know!

Lamb Balti Chiapatti

Now when it came to the main course, there was just so much to choose from. But we both went for the ‘Make your own Balti’. And amazingly we both went for Lamb, Mushroom, Potato and Spinach – it was 75p per extra item after you had chosen your meat, and you can choose your strength of balti – but we forgot and were quite anxious to see what would arrive.

OH MY GOD, no joke, this was ‘The Best Balti’ we had ever tasted. It was awesome. Most Baltis are just sauce I’ve found, but this one was packed with succulent lamb, loads of spinach and potatoes that were ‘just right’, and of course the mushrooms – a ‘balti must’. It was just really really good. We had a Pathwari Naan and a Chiapatti bread to soak up the balti (don’t think I’ve spelt either of these right but hay ho). You have to try this place out!

And then…..

Nice hot lemon flannel

…we were presented with a hot lemon smelling flannel! I used mine to mop up the Chunk Chin and clean the curry fingers – how very cosmopolitan!

I was wondering for ages, whilst sipping the third wine spritzer, how do they do this? I mean is there a little guy in the kitchen with a big radiator just warming and rolling up the flannels? No. They have a little flannel warmer in the restaurant, looks like a safe…very clever.

ANYWAY, so now to the important part, how many ‘Oinks’ do they deserve? There was never any question, 5 Oinks and a ‘Great Service’ award of course. The food came out really quickly, everything was clean and piping hot AND TASTY, and everyone who served us seemed very pleasant. Bubba Chunk highly recommends you try this place out, I know we’ll be going there again soon!

Thanks Spice Fusion!

Oink! Oink! Oink! Oink! Oink! Great Service Award
